Privacy
Your phone's data stays with you.
PhoneDesq connects your Android phone to your Mac directly — over a cable, your own Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth. Your messages, calls, contacts, photos, files, notifications and screen go from your phone to your Mac and nowhere else. We never see them.
What the app sends us
- Once a day: a request for whether PhoneDesq is free or paid. It carries nothing about you.
- If you have a licence: about once a week, your licence key, a random ID your Mac made for itself (not its serial number), your Mac's name and PhoneDesq's version — to check the licence and count how many Macs use it.
- When something goes wrong, unless you turn it off: a crash or connection report — PhoneDesq's and macOS's versions, your Mac's model, your phone's model and Android version, how it was connected (cable, Wi-Fi, the PhoneDesq app or Bluetooth), what went wrong and, for a crash, the names of the functions that were running. Addresses, serial numbers and phone numbers are removed before it is sent, and again when it arrives. Never your messages, photos, files, notifications, contacts or anything on your screen. Reports are deleted after 90 days. Turn them off in Settings › Privacy.
- To check for updates: about once a day, PhoneDesq's version and your macOS version, to see whether a newer PhoneDesq is available.
- Only if you write to support from the app: what you wrote, the topic you chose, the email address you give us to reply to (if any), PhoneDesq's version, your Mac's or phone's model and system version, and how they were connected — so we can answer. Nothing from your phone itself. We keep it while we help you, and delete it when you ask.
When you download PhoneDesq
We ask for your email address and send it a six-digit code, so we know each download is a real person. While PhoneDesq is free, we then email you a free licence key, which you enter in PhoneDesq; it is recorded against your address so we know who uses PhoneDesq. We keep the address, when you verified it, how many times you downloaded and your licence. If you tick “Email me when a new version comes out”, we may email you about new versions — otherwise we never email you except to send the code and your key. Ask us to delete it any time.
When you buy
Paddle, our reseller, takes your payment and handles tax. We receive your email address and what you bought, to send and manage your licence key. We don't receive your card details.

To see which pages help people, phonedesq.com uses Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager — only if you accept in the cookie notice. Until you do, no analytics cookies are set and Google receives only anonymous signals without cookies (Google's Consent Mode). If you accept, Google Analytics sets cookies and receives the pages you visit, roughly where you are (country and city), your browser and device type, and steps such as asking for a download code or opening a question — never your email address, your licence key or anything you type. Google keeps this for 14 months. Change your answer any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. No advertising cookies, no ads, and none of this applies to the PhoneDesq app, which sends Google nothing.
Optional features
If you turn on “Connect away from home”, your Mac asks your router to open a door only your paired phone can use. If you also turn on “Find this Mac after your home's address changes”, your Mac publishes its address — encrypted so only your phone can read it — to a public peer-to-peer network. Both are off unless you turn them on.
